Dear New Red Order: Flashback to Will/Power Film and Video Program, The Wexner Center for the Arts, Columbus, Ohio, 1992

Dear New Red Order,

Greetings from the Heirloom Café at the Wexner Center for the Arts, in Columbus, Ohio!

As I sit here sipping coffee, thinking of your work CULTURE CAPTURE: TERMINAL ADDITION (2019) which was shown in The Box here back in October 2019, I suddenly had a flashback to the Wexner’s Film and Video program here almost 30 years ago, in October and November 1992.

It was curated by Claire Aguilar for the exhibition Will/Power that featured newly commissioned work by works by Papo Colo, Jimmie Durham, David Hammons, Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, Adrian Piper, and Aminah Brenda Lynn Robinson amid the frenzy of the Columbus 500 year celebrations. I didn’t see it myself (I was a teenager back in the UK in 1992, just moving from Leicester to London after my parents split), but thanks to the exhibition catalog (available to purchase in the WexStore), I was able to see which films were part of Aguilar’s program.

On typing all the names of the films and filmmakers, as well as links to watch them or find out more info (where there was any to find) into the computer, I wanted to ask you if you had any thoughts about what we could do here to ‘celebrate’ the 530th?

Hope you are well & to see you here soon!

PS – FYI a Columbus statue still stands here in the Ohio Statehouse, I passed it last Wednesday
