Whispering at an Impasse

Tomorrow (Monday May 18, 2026), when I arrive on campus & enter my department, I’m going to go straight to the little library, with my little radio, start recording (on my phone) & turn to dial to some music. Then I’m going to spend until 8am (so that could be 20mins ,or more or less, depending on when I got to campus) looking around (you could call it researching) to see what this small room tells me about the relationship or, how I see it from where I sit, the impasse, between art education & cultural policy. The recording will be the sounds of the radio, or me browsing & me talking to myself. At the same time, I am fully aware of the need to prepare for my TBA class & no doubt thinking about that class will enter into my mind & words. Hopefully what will emerge (from the radio, the browsing, the muttering to myself & the impending class preparation) is something that will reveal the contours of settler colonialism in the US, in Ohio, in Columbus, at OSU, in the department of Arts Administration, Education & Policy, here & now, there & then, on & on. Remember the imposter is both the settler & those who ensure the settler remains unsettled. – Email to myself, Sunday May 17, 2026
