Moccasins Stamped in Marble

Notice the care with which [Edmonia] Lewis sculpted their [Minnehaha, from Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s Song of Hiawatha (1855), and the arrow maker – Minnehaha’s father] deer-hide moccasins and perhaps paid homage to her two aunts, who made and sold moccasins in her ancestral Anishinaabeg homeland.
