Another day, another death.
It’s Lawrence Weiner’s day.
You gathered together his books, some were in The Rojo, some were slipped between shelves, others are temporarily lost.
Then there are the object-memories he gave you (a respite at some point ASAP). station to station around your wrist, and a plate filled with Latin.
But most of all you remember he made you dig among the rocks at Ostia looking for coins.
In Kassel, at documenta 14 you found his wall still standing (THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE OF THE MIDDLE OF, repeated in red and black), which was the focus of one of the temporarily lost books from dOCUMENTA(13) called IF IN FACT THERE WAS A CONTEXT.
You left your office aiming to get his book for a 1984 exhibition here in Columbus, Ohio – land of the Moundbuilders – called MOUNDS + SMOOTH CAIRNS to somehow make up for the temporarily lost book UNTIL IT IS, of his 2002 exhibition for the Wexner Center for the Arts that stretched across the Ohio State Oval.
The Fine Arts Library was closed – it was too early.
But you had your stones.
And three copies of a poster you picked up in Malaga.
So you went to work.
Where does Weiner fit into your ‘living’ library? Perhaps nowhere. Perhaps everywhere.
