A belated happy new year to all our Minus Plato readers! I have been busy putting together The Minus Plato Library as well as creating a series of teaching projects related to art and education after documenta 14 and I am now ready to share them with you all.
Stretching across two courses (Art Education 7701: Contemporary Theory and Art Education and Philosophy 2450: Philosophical Problems in the Arts), I am focusing on specific components of documenta 14 and their legacies. In the former, in addition to a range of theorists and philosophers, we are reading The documenta 14 Reader and the book produced by the aneducation program, specifically with a focus on questions of decolonization that bridge theory and practice.
In the latter, while exploring philosophical definitions of art, we are engaged with the four issues of South as a State of Mind and the Public Program The Parliament of Bodies, creating our own Open Form Society: Society for Ongoing and Future Artistic Redefinition (S.O.F.A.R).
For the former, as a way of combining The documenta 14 Reader and the aneducation book, in tandem with the selection of documenta 14 artists, we will be creating our own reader – the 2043, Whispered Reader.

For the latter, we will be bringing together readings from South as a State of Mind and talks in The Parliament of Bodies, as part of our S.O.F.A.R. Sessions, while also creating the Society’s Retelling Works Audio Library, comprising the voices of students describing works by documenta 14 artists, as they see or hear them in class.

Our aim for Minus Plato this semester is to post brief summaries of these two classes, specifically how they intersect.
