The Stupidest, Dumbest, Most Beautiful Artistic Thing: Airistotle on Art and Imitation

There are five judges. They’re looking for your technical merit, stage presence, and by far the most important is airness – its the x-factor that transcends the act of imitation, and becomes an art form in and of itself – Airistotle

To witness Airistotle’s transcendent acts of imitation, you can tune in to his defence of his title at the Air Guitar World Championship in Finland tonight, or perhaps instead you could watch the music video to the band Junip’s song Always, directed by Andreas Nilsson and starring Alpo Aaltokoski and Hot Lixx Hulahan. (Thanks to Rebeka for the reference).

I wonder how Dave Hickey would interpret the differences between these two acts of imitation and which connects more closely to his ideas about art and democracy?
