Minus Plato Turns 5 Years Old Today

When I started Minus Plato on this day five years ago, little did I know what an impact it would have on my work and life. (For the curious, here is what I posted back on May 4th, 2012). Looking back, I acknowledged the significance of Cy Twombly’s art for my work as a Classicist, but otherwise my knowledge and experience of Contemporary Art was very limited. Furthermore,  I had yet to teach a class that involved Classics and Contemporary Art, let alone collaborate with artists or curate an exhibition. If you had asked me then if I would have responded to the election of Donald Trump as president by posting every single day, I would never have believed you (seriously, Donald Trump is president?!). But here we are. Minus Plato is still my laboratory – the place were I work out ideas and engage as a Classicist with artists from all kinds of backgrounds and practices, here in Columbus and internationally. I want to take this moment to thank you all for reading, for supporting me and to celebrate the future of Minus Plato. I also want to acknowledge the role that my partner, Rebeka Campos-Astorkiza has had on my life as a blogger. While my posting every day has been seriously annoying for her in so many ways (actually, I am now late to meet her because I am writing this!), she has been the most supportive and energizing advocate that Minus Plato could hope for. Thank you Rebeka – here’s to you (and Cy) for being there today and at the beginning 5 years ago!
